The Ruins of Pompeii Reopens to the Public in 2021

On 25 January 2021, the ruins of Pompeii reopened to visitors following a closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This move comes with various public safety guidelines that visitors need to familiarize themselves if they intend to visit Pompeii.

Updated Safety Measures and Rules at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii [2021]

  • Visitors can book their Pompeii tickets both online and at the physical ticket counter at the site. If tickets are booked online, guests can choose their preferred time slot to visit the ruins, available in 15-minute shifts. Up til 01:00 PM, 500 guests will be allowed in every 15 minutes; post that, 300 guests will be allowed in per shift.
  • Guests can now enter the site through only Piazza Anfiteatro and Piazza Esedra entrances
  • All visitors must wear a mask that completely covers their nose and mouth throughout the duration of their trip
  • For the purpose of social distancing, visitors must maintain a minimum of 1-meter distance from others while outdoors, and 1.5-meter distance while indoors. Furthermore, one-way pathways have also been demarcated to prevent crowd formation and specific signage is placed across the site to facilitate an even flow of guests. 
  • Each visitor will undergo a temperature check on arrival. Any individual whose temperature is higher than 37.5° C (99.5° F) will not be permitted into the premises.
  • Hand sanitizers are available at the entrance of the site, as well as outside washroom facilities
  • These are the guidelines for group visits: independent guests can travel in a group of maximum 5 members; guided tour groups will include a maximum of 10 guests. Guided tours are also now available between 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM.
